Kreatif Beats is an initiative by The Design School at Taylor’s University to give voice to creativity in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The project was initiated by Senior Lecturer Vinod J Nair. The effort was only realised with the inclusion of Senior Lecturer Yip Jinchi, Assoc. Professor Sherry Blankenship and Lecturer Shamsul Hamimi. (See more on these individuals at the end of the article.)

With the onslaught of western media’s influence and the hype surrounding its various personalities within the creative disciplines, it was thought very important to begin talking about our own regional creations, creators, creative education, creative activism and/or the politics of art and design.

To this end, the Kreatif Beats site aims to share diverse views as well as local or regional knowledge and information on creative disciplines. The site addresses pressing or pertinent issues related to the creative disciplines or thought processes and trends in Southeast Asia and South Asia. It also looks into educational practices and shares epiphanies, insights, and/or curriculum strategies for the betterment of those involved in the nurturing of creative peoples.

As such, the site seeks contributions by individuals, primarily from the Southeast Asian and South Asian region, academics and professionals in the creative disciplines to become associated as contributors of Kreatif Beats.

We are also looking for organisations to lend their endorsements to the site to increase its validity but also appeal. Therefore, we are presently reaching out to wREGA, MRM, MDA and others to lend their support to this initiative.
